Fisher Program in Jordan

The Fisher program aims to providing vital basic knowledge on most of the social issues affecting children and youth. It empowers children and youth to respect others, preparing them to become builders of a better future for all.

The Fisher Program was born with four high school Christians and Muslims students in October 2001, as a fruit of a long national, regional and international experience of Reverend Dr. Qais Sadiq, President of the Ecumenical Studies Center, in serving children and youth.

The program aims to formulate a new generation by providing vital basic knowledge on most of the social issues, besides raising children on the belief of respectful cooperation and acceptance, preparing them to become the builders of a better future.

The program has participated in many activities, conferences, and trips to disseminate the substance of peace building and to bridge the gap between theory and reality.

The name “Fisher” was chosen to express our idea of inviting (fishing) more children to join the group and thus creating a stronger program with a wide diversity of opinions that meet at a certain point where everyone believe that peace is the answer.

About the program:

We meet weekly for two hours on a round discussion table to discuss the following issues:

1. Peace building and Reconcilation
2. Democrcy and Justce
3. Gender
4. Woman Abuse
5. Child Abuse
6. Discrimination
7. Children's righs
8. Humanity
9. Globalizaiton and diversification
10. Environment

Amongst many other social issues that concern us as children of the coming future.

Our local and regional activities:

1. We have particpated in the "Consultative Regional Seminar on Spiritual and Ethical Values as Basic Principles of Child Education and Development" in Amman, Jordan
2. We have also particpated in the GNRC Amman Child Regional Workshop on "My Right is to Live in Peace".
3. We went to Lebanon for a conference to share our experinces with Lebanese children and youth.

Our action plan for the near future is to set regional workshops in most of the Middle East Arab countries in which we can all gain expertise to go, act and achieve...

We strongly believe that we can all make the right decision…
