Media, Children and Values

In 2005, a discussion by the Interfaith Council on Ethics Education for Children led to the conclusion that media is a critical tool in disseminating values among children, and that it is a potential element through which ethics-related information are transmitted to young people.

In 2009, Arigatou International will initiate a project on the area of media, values, and children that would involve university students learning tools related to critical thinking, media literacy, values and ethics in the media, and successively disseminating these information towards children.

The project programme would commence through an on-campus conference in one of the Geneva universities on the topic of media, values, and children, where the main project would be promoted. The actual project would consist of a series of activities interested students are required to attend:

- course on Media Research
- course on Media Literacy
- special course on Media, Values, and Children, which would consist of a workshop and interaction with children from the international schools

Students engaged in the programme would be expected to write at least two papers related to media, values, and children, which would then be published as a manual under the names of Arigatou International and its partners on the project.
