Arigatou International - a Geneva based international NGO

  • To advocate for the full implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • to promote peace education through interfaith learning and ethics education
  • to facilitate the work of the Interfaith Council on Ethics Education for Children
  • to support the work of the Global Network of Religions for Children
  • to serve as the international office for Myochikai – Arigatou Foundation

Arigatou International is committed to work for the empowerment of children and youth and sees the full implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) as the most important achievement towards a better and more just world for children and youth. As a member of the
NGO Group for the CRC and of the Child Rights Information Network (CRIN), Arigatou International liaises and works jointly with other NGOs to foster cooperation with UN and UN agencies in a rights based approach to one of today's most pertinent issue, the wellbeing and rights of children and youth.

At the
Special Session on Children of the United Nations General Assembly in May 2002, President Takeyasu Miyamoto of the Arigatou Foundation spoke to the world leaders assembled on behalf of the GNRC, proposing the establishment of the Interfaith Council on Ethics Education for Children as an expression of  the commitment to continue to work to eradicate poverty and to contribute to the full implementation of the CRC and the and the Global Movement for Children (GMfC).

Civil society including religious leaders and religious communities can play a very important role in influencing values and behaviours of their constituencies. Various initiatives are today created to address together issues of global concern. One such initiative is the
Global Network of Religions for Children (GNRC), established by the Arigatou Foundation in May 2000. The GNRC is a network of religious organisations and people as well as of other organizations and individuals working for the well being of children around the world.

The GNRC provides a venue for information exchange to facilitate and promote cooperation among organizations and individuals committed to working for children’s rights. Cooperation through the GNRC add a spiritual dimension to the shared vision of creating a better environment for children in the 21st century, making a significant contribution to the global movement for children toward this end.

Since the establishment of the GNRC, its members have launched regional initiatives in almost all of the world’s major regions.

Arigatou
International represents the Interfaith Council, the GNRC and the Arigatou Foundation in various contexts and facilitates the work of the different initiatives.

Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, the Arigatou Foundation is an international faith-based NGO whose mission is to create a better environment for all the children of the world. The Foundation has four major program areas: assistance for children in difficult circumstances; enlightenment of the public on children’s issues; art & culture and information provision; and interreligious cooperation. The GNRC is one of the Foundation’s major inter-religious cooperation initiatives.
